Books have been helping children learn to relate for many years. As our world continues to grow more diverse, a great number of books have been created to help children process differences, cope with hardships, and express themselves. Below is a list of books that might be helpful to providers and parents. Please note: Not all suggested books in this list will be a good fit for all families. Books should be screened and shared according to their need and relevance. Your local librarian may be able to help you find additional resources for specific topics.

Talking about Death with Children

Memorial day cemeteryMany people will be honoring loved ones who have passed away this Memorial Day. However, many people hesitate to discuss death with children. While the topic can be uncomfortable, death is something everyone must face.

When discussing death with a child, first find out what he or she knows. Many children have misconceptions, fears, and worries surrounding the concept of death. While talking about it may not solve all their problems, you may be able to provide information, comfort, and a clearer understanding of what death means.
